Welcome to ‘Roger Jolly’s archive

Roger Jolly has been a professional trader for the last eight years, trading various financial markets (including equities, commodities and currencies) in London, Dublin, Chicago and New York.

Up until recently he was trading on one of Dublin’s larger trading floors. However he has now quit that and is trading for himself, from home.

Roger says his trading is largely technical (i.e. based off the charts) but he keeps a close eye on the news too.

Ahoy there! How’s everyone doing this morning? Roger J. here, doing my bit to keep the boards alive and get our trade discussions going while FT is away. It’s been quite a week so far actually. Markets are still volatile and I have been on the right side of a couple of nice winners. Fingers crossed for today. Let’s see if we can keep the ball rolling!!

Trending Towards a Short

Hi again folks! Roger here again, still standing in for FT this week. I had a discussion about market timing yesterday, and was delighted to get long October Brent Crude yesterday, as outlined in my diary, and take $2.00 out of the trade, to close it out at $114.00 for a sizeable winner. This really gets the week’s trading humming for me.

Well folks, I hope everyone had a successful Monday. How are you placing your bets in this market? Does anyone else find the graph on the Paddy Power Trader main page of current open positions as fascinating as I do? I have no problem admitting to you that I am finding it difficult to get on the right side of a winning position and take any significant profit in this market.

Mornin’ folks, RJ here again standing in for FT who is on holidays. Well, I hope we’re all rested after the weekend and ready to take on the markets again. I know I am. I barricaded myself indoors away from this new Irish monsoon season we apparently have now and spent hours educating myself on the finer points of Olympic synchronised diving.

Hi folks, RJ here again, still standing in for FT and after yesterday’s torrential rain, it looks like the sun might have come out. You want more good news? It might just be the luckiest day of the year today. Well it is for the Chinese anyway, where the number 8 is considered very charmed,

Talking Divergence And Still Swinging On Cable

Ahoy! Roger J here again, standing in for FT who is overseas. ‘Twas a rough storm yesterday in the Oil markets and I had to take a loss on my long position. Cable also weakened, heading south and adding to a tough day for yours truly. Luckily Tuesday’s big day in the Dow followed through as suggested, and I made some handy gains buying dips throughout the day. So all in all, not a shipwreck, but I’ve had plainer sailing. Let’s what treasures lie in store out there today and heading into the weekend. Yarrr!

Cable, Oil And Now The Dow

Righto mateys, Roger Jolly here keeping Mr FT’s berth warm for him. From my lookout I saw the Fed decided to leave rates unchanged last night, and yesterday we had the biggest up day in the Dow since April 1st. Will this end the guessing game with regard to the stock markets and provide us with a clear direction up? Time will tell.
