1. What Is RSS?
This really is the information age. 7.3 million new webpages are created each day, and blogs are increasing at the rate of 1.4 per second. No wonder then that it can be hard to keep track of things, never mind get the information you want. Step in RSS.
RSS is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, blogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it. It helps you to deal with lots of information. You can quickly see which sources have been updated and choose what to read.
2. What Do I Need?
The first thing you need to use RSS is a news reader or an “aggregator”. There several different versions. Some web browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox have these included, although they’re quite basic. Once you’ve added an RSS feed to Mozilla, all blog posts will appear in your Bookmarks (with the ones you’ve read marked separately).
Next on the list are web-based readers. Very popular at the moment are iGoogle and MyYahoo!, which are very simple to use. Others include Pageflakes, Rojo and Delicious… The advantage to these is there is nothing to install and they can be accessed from any computer.
The final option is downloadable readers such as Sharp Reader, Feed Demon or Newz Crawler. These all resemble email clients like Microsoft Outlook and have more features than your average web-based reader/aggregator but do require downloading and installing.
Of course the choice is yours, but if you’re not familiar with RSS a web-based reader might be the best way to dip your toe in the water.
3. Using RSS On paddypowertrader.com
Getting access to feeds on paddypowertrader is easy. Simply click on the “RSS” button beside the blog that you want go to subscribe to. This will open a pop up window and allow you to choose which RSS reader you would like to use.
Once this has been done the blog posts will automatically appear in your RSS reader.
